Pakistan win toss, opt to bowl against Zimbabwe
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl against hosts Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the T20 tri-series being played in Zimbabwe.

The green shirts will be looking to make a comeback after they lost their second T20 match of the tri-series against Australia.

Australia beat Pakistan by nine wickets on Monday, ending the green shirts' eight-match winning streak in the shortest format of the game.

Fast bowler Billy Stanlake demolished Pakistan's top order with four quick wickets as they were held to 116 all out. Australia chased down the target in the 11th over, powered by skipper Aaron Finch's 68* off 33.

Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 74 runs in the opening match of the series.

Stunned silence in Tokyo as Japan World Cup dream ends

Stunned silence in Tokyo as Japan World Cup dream ends

Stunned silence in Tokyo as Japan World Cup dream ends
As dawn broke in Tokyo, Japan fans had dared to believe their team was about to make World Cup history. But a few short minutes later, the dream was over.

At a bar in a Tokyo business district, the air went out of the room as Belgium found the net in extra time, scoring a third goal to seal Japan's fate.

Just a short while earlier, whoops of joy had filled the pub in Tokyo's Shinagawa district as the Blue Samurai scored a second goal, defying expectations to go 2-0 up over star-studded Belgium.

But when the final whistle went with Belgium winning 3-2 to end Japan's latest shot at World Cup history, fans sat in virtual silence, staring in disbelief at the screen.

"I'm so frustrated," 32-year-old Ryota Iwakiri said bitterly, trying to comprehend the sudden collapse, as others around him tried to hold back tears.

"The game was like a roller-coaster. They let us dream of a victory at one point. They really had good momentum," said Yuki Kakishita, an employee at a real estate agency.

Fans at the bar, some dressed in their team's blue strip and sporting Japanese flags painted on their cheeks, had exploded with joy when Takashi Inui scored the team's second goal.

"We were so excited when Japan took the lead. But Belgium were so tough," said Shimon Otomo, a businessman still wearing his suit and tie.

Many fans watching the game at a public screening could be seen with their head in their hands as Japan's campaign ended.

The disappointment was crushing despite the low expectations that accompanied the team into the tournament.

After several poor showings leading up to the World Cup, and an 11th hour decision by bosses to sack coach Vahid Halilhodzic, many feared Japan would not even make it out of its group.

And new coach Akira Nishino was bitterly criticised for ordering the team to run down the clock in their final group stage match, knowing a 1-0 loss to Poland would be enough to allow them to advance.

For some fans though, there was consolation to be had in the fact that the team made it so far, and got so close to an unprecedented quarter-final spot.

"We lost it, but they left everything on the pitch," conceded 23-year-old Sawa Okada.

"Japan showed people that they are competitive on the world stage," added Iwakiri.

"Japan nearly slayed the giant."

World Cup fever has gripped Japan despite a time difference that meant Monday's match aired from 3:00am local time on Tuesday morning in Tokyo.

As the result sank in, people began to drift out of the bar, heading into the subway where early-bird commuters were already making their way in to the office.

"It was worth staying up late to watch it," said Otomo, polishing off a cocktail and straightening out his suit.

"I'll have to go straight to the office now though, time to work hard again."

ICC brings tougher sanctions for ball tampering, personal abuse
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday brought in tougher Code of Sanctions for ball tempering and personal abuse by making it a Level three and Level two offence respectively.

The maximum sanction for a Level 3 offence has been increased from 8 suspension points to 12 suspension points (equivalent to 6 Test matches or 12 ODIs) on changing the condition of the ball.

The ICC has sanctioned Level two offence on the use of personal abuse during the match and have included 'Attempt to gain and unfair advantage (cheating, other than ball-tampering) as a Level three offence.

"Match referees will now hear Level 1, 2 and 3 charges with a Judicial Commissioner only hearing Level 4 charges and appeals," said the ICC media release.

In the meeting, the body also reviewed challanges to cricket from the t20 leagues, however, any final decision on the inclusion of players in the league will be taken in its session in October.

World Test Championship

The playing conditions for the World Test Championship were approved by the Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC). This includes the points structure which was recommended by the ICC Cricket Committee and the provision of a reserve day to enable any time lost through bad weather to be made up for the final. The full playing conditions will be drafted over the coming weeks and published in due course.

The CEC also confirmed that whilst all World Test Championship games must be 5-day Test matches, four day Tests can continue to be played by Members.

2018 Women’s T20 Asia Cup

In light of the recent decision to award international status to all women’s T20 matches played between ICC Members after 1 July 2018, to retrospectively grant all matches at the recent Women’s T20 Asia Cup T20I status.

All Member men’s senior teams will be awarded T20I status on 1 January 2019 following the cut-off point for qualification to the ICC World T20 2020.

Rankings for women and men will be introduced in October 2018 and May 2019 respectively as part of the ICC’s commitment to growing the game through its shortest format.
